What Is Methylhydroquinone
It is colorless crystal. The melting point is 115-116 ° C and the boiling point is 246 ° C. It is soluble in 95% alcohol, ether, benzene, terpenes, non-volatile oils and sodium hydroxide solution. It has a phenolic odor and volatilizes with water vapor. It is stable in hot water.
Application Areas
1. Specialized Inhibitor for Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPR)
An industry-leading additive for storage inhibition of UPR, vinyl ester resins, and high-temperature pultrusion/molding resins.
With a mere dosage of 0.02%–0.05%, it outperforms hydroquinone in high-temperature curing systems. It effectively prevents room-temperature self-polymerization and gas swelling, making it the preferred inhibitor for high-temperature-resistant resins.
2. Antioxidants (for Plastics, Rubber, & Daily Chemicals)
Antioxidant stabilizers for PVC, synthetic rubber, and polyurethane to delay aging and yellowing in polymers. Also serves as a phenolic antioxidant raw material for select cosmetics and oils/fats.
3. Dye & Pigment Intermediates
Intermediates for synthesizing premium acid dyes, organic pigments, and hair dyes, serving as an alternative to certain hydroquinone-based product lines.
4. Fine Chemical Intermediates for Pharmaceuticals & Agrochemicals
Intermediates for synthesizing antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and agricultural fungicides. A core raw material for custom synthesis in fine chemicals.
